A major global defense organization required a portable, rugged, military-grade Ethernet switch for a new electronic support measures (ESM) project it was developing: a portable military ground radar system that could deploy quickly to monitor, detect and track areas of interest.Because of the nature of the new system, the customer’s SWaP and other requirements were very specific: the switch had to have a small form factor, eight ports, operate on 5Vdc power via USB, comply fully with environmental and electromagnetic interference standards, and meet IP68 conditions for dust and water protection.
Techaya was able to respond with MILTECH 308, a commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solution. The MILTECH 308 is a reliable and fast Ethernet switch with eight 10/100Mbps ports, and which definitely met size specifications: it is smaller than a credit card at 3.2” x 2.5” x 1”, weighs just .31 pounds, and offers the best combination of SWaP-C in the industry. In addition, the switch meets MIL-STD-810 compliance and has a high reliability in environmental conditions such as freezing rain and high temperatures, low pressure, temperature or transport shock, many types of vibration, and solar radiation.
The customer was delighted that Techaya’s MILTECH 308 saved not only time, but money: there was no need to customize the MILTECH 308 as our in-house specifications exceeded the customer’s requirements and in addition, have a high reliability in existing systems that necessitate rugged, military-ready use. We were able to supply the right part quickly and reliably, and the customer’s system is currently already at the testing phase.
